Once upon a time, a sister of seven brothers was married to a king. When the first karva chauth came after marriage , the queen came to her maternal home. According to custom, he kept the fast of Karva Chauth, but could not bear the hunger and thirst for long and sat waiting to see the moon.
His condition was not seen by all the seven brothers, so they showed the shadow of the fake moon from a mirror behind a peepal tree to ease the suffering of the sister. The sister felt that the real moon was visible and ended her fast. Here Rani ended her fast, and her husband’s health started deteriorating. On hearing this news she immediately left for her in-laws.
On the way, the queen met Shiva-Parvati. Mother Parvati tells her that her husband has died and the reason is her own brothers. The queen did not understand anything at first, but when she came to know about the whole thing, she apologized to Mother Parvati for the mistake of her brothers.
Seeing this, Mother Parvati told the queen that her husband can be alive again if he performs Karva Chauth fast (karva chauth) again with complete law. After that, the Mother Goddess told the queen the whole method of fasting. Rani performed the fast of Karva Chauth by following the method laid down by her mother and recovered her husband.

The Karva Chauth Vrat (karva chauth vrat katha) initiated by Draupadi has the same belief even today. Draupadi kept this fast for the long life of her honey and was waterless. It is believed that this fast of Draupadi was also important in the victory of the Pandavas.
