Govardhan Annakut Puja Fasting Story

The second day of Diwali in Hinduism is Govardhan Puja (govardhan puja). Man’s direct connection with nature is seen in this festival. There is folklore associated with this festival. Once upon a time, Shri Krishna, along with his friends Gwalas, went to Govardhan Parvat to feed cattle.

They found that a lot of people were celebrating a festival. When Sri Krishna wanted to know the reason for this, the gopi’s present there told him that today Lord Indradev, the lord of the clouds and the gods, will be worshiped and then Indradev will rain in delight, food will be produced in the fields and the Brajwasis will be fed.

Hearing this, Shri Krishna said that Govardhan Parvat is more powerful than Indra, due to which it rains here and everyone should worship powerful Govardhan from Indra as well.

Agreeing with Shri Krishna’s word, everyone started worshiping Govardhan. When Indradev came to know this, he got angry and ordered the clouds to go to Gokul and make torrential rain. Frightened by the horrific rain, all the gopi-gwaleas went to Shri Krishna.

Shri Krishna asked everyone to walk in the shelter of Govardhan Parvat. All the Gopis and Gwaleas, along with their animals, came to the valley of Govardhan. After that, Shri Krishna raised the Govardhan mountain on his inferiority and gave it a thunderous look.

The clouds of Lord Indra continued raining continuously for seven days, but not a single drop of water fell on the Brajvas due to the influence of Sudarshan Chakra of Shri Krishna. Seeing this amazing miracle, Indradev got confused.

Then Brahma Ji told that Shri Krishna is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Satya Jaan Indradev started apologizing to Shri Krishna. Lord Krishna’s Indradeva was crushed by arrogance, so he forgave Indradev and placed Govardhan Parvat on the ground floor on the seventh day and told the Brajvas that they should celebrate Govardhan every year and celebrate the festival of Annakoot. Since then, the festival is prevalent today is also celebrated with full devotion devotion
