An interesting story of the life of Gautam Buddha that will answer many of your questions.

We are all well aware of Gautama Buddha. A crown prince who abandoned his royalty and family in search of knowledge. Buddha, after attaining enlightenment, started teaching people and explained that a person is responsible for his own good and bad. He gave many teachings during his lifetime, but there were few who could understand his teachings and know the truth. Today we are going to tell a story related to the life of Buddha which is relevant even today.

Sermonist

A person who used to come to hear the discourses of Lord Buddha every day said to Lord Buddha, ‘I recite your sermon regularly but no change is coming in me. Is there any deficiency in me, I want to know the reason? ‘ Let me tell you that in his sermons Lord Buddha used to follow the path of truth, he used to advise to remove ego, malice, greed etc. from life.

Well the Buddha God was not surprised to hear that person because many people sitting in the assembly were in the same situation, so they responded and asked the person ‘where do you live?’ The person replied that I am a resident of Shravasti.

The destination will be found only after walking on the road

After getting the answer to the first question, God again asked ‘How do you reach your village?’ The person replied that he sometimes reaches his village by sitting in a bullock cart and sometimes a horse. After this Buddha asked another question, how long does it take you to get there? He told the time by applying the assessment. After this Gautam Buddha asked, ‘Can you reach Shravasti at your home while sitting here now?’

The person was a bit surprised and he replied that, how can I reach my house while sitting here, I have to walk to reach home and then I can reach home only by sitting in the vehicle. While replying on that person, Buddha said that you say right, the destination can be reached only by walking.

It is important to bring learning into life

Lord Buddha explained further and told the person that, just as the floor cannot be reached without moving, similarly there is no change by just listening to good things. The person gets the destination only by adapting good things in his conduct. After this the person realized his mistake and decided to follow the path of Buddha.

What the story tells

We get to learn a lot from this short passage in the life of Buddha. It is not that no one knows about his teachings in today’s age, nor is it that there are no people who teach in the right way in today’s time. But the question is who will be ready to follow the teachings. Knowledge is meaningful only when it is also put into practice.

Even today, if we are ready to follow the teachings of our personalities, then there can be meaningful changes in life. For those who cry their failures, this story also learns, did you walk the path on which you wanted to reach the destination.
