
Snakes have their own distinct significance in Hinduism, so the festival of nagula chavithi (nagula chavithi) is celebrated in order to express their solidarity towards the serpent community. In rural areas, snakes are helpful for farmers in many ways.
In the winter season snakes break out of their burrows and eat the mice and also kill harmful micro-organisms present in freshwater. At the same time, snakes occupy a high position in astrology. It is believed that by worshiping snake deities, the ill effects of the Rahu planet can be avoided.
According to mythological belief, the serpent was used as a rope when the gods and asuras churned the ocean to search for nectar. In this brainstorm, even the poisonous poison came out for the good of the whole world, Lord Shiva consumed poison.
After which his throat became blue and he came to be called Neelkanth. It is said that a drop of this poison fell on the earth and mankind started worshiping snakes on the earth to reduce the ill effects of this poison. From then on, the Nagul Chavithi festival began to be celebrated on the earth.
Another Legendary Story
The legends related to Nagula Chavithi are associated with Hindu mythology. According to the mythological story, once Raj Janmejaya organized the Sarpamedha Yagna for the destruction of all the Naga castes, due to which all the snakes and serpents of the world started falling into the Yajnvedi.

Nagaraja Takshaka then sought help from the gods to protect his life, but due to the majestic mantras Takshaka as well as Indra and other deities were drawn towards the altar. Then the deity and the serpent reached the shelter of Brahma Ji and he requested help.
Chaturanan asked him to enlist the help of Astika, the son of Mansa Devi. According to Brahma ji, the deity and serpent came to Mansa Devi and told her their agony. Then Mati ordered her son Astika to stop the Sarpamedha Yagna.
Obeying the mother’s command, Astika stopped the yagna and protected all the Nagas and gods. This work was done on the day of Nag Chaturthi, Due to this, Mata Mansa blessed the gods and mankind that whoever worships the serpents on this day and will listen to this story, every wish will be fulfilled. Since then, the Nagula Chavithi festival is celebrated on this day.
Nagula Chavithi is fasted by newly married women for procreation. They go to homes, temples, bambis, and worship snake gods and feed them.
