Ahoi Ashtami Fasting Story

Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha

There is a provision to celebrate ahoi Ashtami on the Ashtami of Kartik Krishna Paksha of Hindu Panchag. On this day, women keep a fast and pray for the protection and longevity of their children. There are many stories related to this festival but one legend is prevalent.

In ancient times there was a moneylender, who had seven sons and seven daughters-in-law. The moneylender also had a daughter who came to her maternal home from her in-laws in Deepawali.

On Diwali, seven of the daughters-in-law went to the forest to bring mud to the house, and the sister also went with them. Sahukar’s daughter lived with her son’s Syahi (Sahi) at the place where the soil was cut.

Syahi’s one child died due to injury to the moneylender’s daughter’s scrape by mistake while cutting mud. Syahi got angry and said, I will bind your womb.

Upon hearing the words of Syahi, the moneylender’s daughter kept pleading with her seven sisters-in-law to get her womb tied instead. The youngest sister-in-law agreed to put her womb in lieu of sister-in-law. After this, all the children of the younger sister-in-law died seven days later.

After the death of seven sons in this way, he called the Pandit and asked the reason for this. Pandit advised to serve surhi cow. According to Pandati she started serving Surhi cow. Surhi was happy with the service and took her to Syahi.

After getting tired on the way, both of them started to relax, then suddenly the moneylender’s younger daughter-in-law went to one side, she saw that a snake was going to sting the child of Garuda Phanshi, Seeing this, he killed the snake. At the same time, Garun Phanni appeared and seeing the blood-splattered she felt that the younger daughter-in-law had killed her child, on which she started bending the younger daughter-in-law. The younger daughter-in-law says that she has saved the life of her child. Garuda Phanni is happy at this and brings them to the ink, including Surhi.
