Shravan 2020: Everything You Need To Know

One of the most important months according to the Hindu calendar is the month of Shravan. It is the 5th month according to the Hindu calendar. It is also believed that it has great importance. Especially if one wants to get the blessings of Lord Shiva. This month was ruled by Lord Shiva. This month is called Shravan because on any day of this month, the Shravan nakshatra rules the sky.



 

Significance of Shravan

According to the Puranas, churning is an extremely important part. The churning of the sea took place during the month of Shravan. During the sea churning, 14 different objects came out from the depths of the sea. Thirteen of them who were divided into devas. The 14th item remained untouched as it was the deadliest poison hallucination. Lord Shiva embraced Hallahal in his neck to save the world. The effect of such poison was that the throat of Lord Shiva became blue. Thus, Lord Shiva also received the name of Neelkanth.

To reduce the effects of poison, Lord Shiva wore a crescent moon on his head. The gods offered the holy Ganges water to provide some relief. All these programs took place in the month of Shravan. Therefore it is considered very auspicious if someone offers holy Ganges water to Lord Shiva during this month. Due to the cooling effect of sandalwood, offering sandal paste to Lord Shiva is considered beneficial. Mondays during this month are dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is done to obtain divine blessings.

Worshiping Lord Shiva in the month of Shravan is believed to have a tremendous positive impact on followers. These benefits include success on the professional and personal fronts, eliminating the negative effects of bad planets. To attain health, wealth and prosperity and also to get rid of diseases or diseases.

Shravan Somwar

The Monday that comes in the month of Shravan is called Shravan Monday. Shravan Somvar, celebrated during this holy month, is considered highly beneficial for devotees. Devotees offer bell leaves, milk and holy water of Ganga to Lord Shiva and keep fast till sunset.

Sixteen Mondays means 16 Mondays which begin on the first Monday of the month of Shravan. People fasted for 16 Mondays. Mondays are believed to be dedicated to Lord Shiva.

There are some reasons for observing Shravan fast on Monday. Those who face issues in their marital life or delay in marriage do such fasting. It is believed that by observing a fast these days, Lord Shiva is pleased. Lord Shiva blesses these devotees with prosperity and happiness. Goddess Parvati celebrated sixteen Somwar fast so that she could marry Lord Shiva.

Tuesday in Shravan month is considered to be dedicated to Goddess Parvati. The fast observed on those days is called Mangal Gauri fast.

First day of Shravan 2020

For Northern India ( Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttrakhand )

For the northern states of India, the month of Shravan will start on Monday 6 July 2020, and end on Monday 3 August 2020. Every Monday, Shravan, Somwar fast will be observed. These days are 6 July, 13 July, 20 July, 27 July and 3 August.

For Southern and Western India ( Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu )

For the southern and western states of India, the month of Shravan will start on Tuesday, 21 July 2020 and end on Wednesday, 19 August 2020. Every Monday, Sawan Somwar Vrat will be observed. These days are 27 July, 3 August, 10 August and 17 August.
