Narasimha Jayanti

Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is considered God. Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha of Baishakh month is celebrated as Narasimha Jayanti. According to the legend, Maharishi Kashyapa and Aditi had two sons named Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashyap. Both were very powerful and kings of demons. The terror of Hiranyaksha increased so much that Lord Vishnu killed Varah with an incarnation of Varaha.

 At the same time, Hiranyakashyap, determined to take revenge on Lord Vishnu, became angry with the slaughter of his brother. For this Hiranyakashyapa meditated for thousands of years and pleased Brahma Ji and asked for a boon. He asked for a boon that no man or animal could kill him and Brahma Ji said Aastastu.



After Brahma Ji’s boon, Hiranyakashyap became fearless and he terrorized all the three worlds. He exiled the gods from heaven and took possession of the three worlds. To seek vengeance from Lord Vishnu, he announced in his kingdom that he is God himself and no one would worship him. But after the birth of his son Prahlad, Hiranyakashyap became fearful of his devotion, trying to get him to death.

He also tried to kill Prahlada through his sister Holika but Holika herself got burnt. Hiranyakashyap became extremely angry after the death of his sister and decided to kill his son on the day of Baishakh Shukla Chaturdashi.

Hiranyakashipu told Prahlada that you call your Lord Vishnu. On this, Prahlada said that the Lord is everywhere and is absorbed in every particle. While ridiculing Prahlada, he said that your Vishnu is also present in this column, Prahlada said that yes he is present in it too. Hearing this, Hiranyakashyap was enraged and attacked the pillar with his sword.

By striking the pillar, Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, appeared. Lord Narasimha lying Hiranyakashyap on his lap and ripped his stomach with his nails. But even after this, the anger of the Lord Narasimha did not calm down. All the gods reached to Lord Vishnu to calm their anger. The three gods arrived to pacify the wrath of Lord Narasimha but his anger did not calm down.

Even Lord Shiva stood face to face, But Narasimha Lord attacked him. Lord Shankar was enraged and took the form of a gigantic Taurus and dragged Narasimha in his tail and took him to hell. Long held Narsingh and Narsingh used all his powers but was unable to be independent and became powerless. After this, the anger of Lord Narasimha calmed down.
