Kalashtami Fasting Story

Kalashtami Vrat Katha

According to Shivpuran, Kalabhairava (kala bhairava) was born on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha. It is believed that by observing the fast of Kalabhairava, all the wishes of the worshiper are fulfilled and at the same time the fear of witchcraft and tantra-mantra is removed. According to astrology, worshiping Kalabhairava removes the defects of all the Navagrahas and ends their inauspicious effects.

The other often seems to be underestimated to describe himself as superior. This battle to prove his superiority is not going on from today but has been going on for ages. Can humans not avoid it even to the deity? It occurred a long time ago.

There has been a dispute between Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh i.e. the Tridevas about who is the best among them. A meeting of all the deities was called to resolve the dispute. Lord Shiva and Vishnu agreed with the conclusion given by the gathering after much brainstorming, but Brahma Ji was not satisfied.

They even tried to humiliate Lord Shiva, which made Lord Shiva extremely angry. Kaal Bhairava originated from this terrible form of Lord Shankar. All the Gods and Goddesses present in the meeting shook at seeing this form of Shiva. Kalabhairav (kalashtami), who had come on a black dog with a penalty in his hands, Attacked Lord Brahma and separated one of his heads.

With only four heads left with Lord Brahma, he apologized and saved himself from the wrath of Kaal Bhairav. On Lord Brahma’s apology, Lord Shiva returned to his form again, but Kaal Bhairav was accused of killing Brahm, due to which he wandered here and there for many years in Varanasi, where he got freedom from this sin.

In some stories, the battle for superiority is told only between Brahma and Lord Vishnu. Lord Kaal Bhairav (kalashtami vrat katha) is also called Mahakaleshwar, Dandadhipati. In Varanasi, they are also called Dandapani because of their freedom from punishment.
