Why the sacred leaf of tulsi is not offered?
There is a mythological story behind it. In her youth, Tulsi, Dharmaraja’s daughter was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Often she visited the banks of the river Ganges and worshiped in the temple of Lord Vishnu located nearby. One day, he looked at a beautiful youth sitting in deep meditation, who was Lord Ganesha. The aura around her attracts Tulsi and she approaches him, confesses his love and asks him to marry her. However, Lord Ganesha politely declined the offer leaving Tulsi in anger.
Feeling humiliated, he cursed her that one day she would have to marry against his will. In return, God also cursed Tulsi that in future she too will marry a demon. Hearing this, he realized his mistake and felt guilty. Lord Ganesha apologized to him and cursed that he would redeem the curse with the blessings of Lord Vishnu and turn it into a sacred plant. At the same time, he mentions, the leaves of that sacred plant will remain unacceptable in their worship and will always be away for them.
