Locusts eat food. They feed crops stained with sweat and blood of farmers. As locust attacks in India have worsened for the past two decades, there may be a food shortage in the country. Vegetable, sugarcane, summer pulses, and vegetable crops on about 42,000 hectares have already been affected by locust herds in many states, especially Rajasthan. Officials across the country are helping farmers. A pesticide spraying campaign has been provided to the farmers.
To kill locusts, around 700 tractors, 75 fire engines, and 50 other vehicles are trying to spray pesticides.
The locust swarm can now arrive in the capital of New Delhi on Monday. As the nation is on its battle with the coronavirus pandemic, it is badly infected. Locust attack is not new in India. This is a frequent occurrence. However, according to reports, India is under the worst attack in the last 27 years. Typically, insects follow the rain. They appear with the arrival of monsoon in India. The months of June to November are the peak times of grasshopper attacks. This year, on 30 May, farmers report their arrival in Rajasthan and Punjab. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the conditions are now under control in both regions. Also, if the wind remains favorable, New Delhi will be the next stop for the herd.

According to the forecast, the wind is favorable for carrying winds in the capital of India. To help the Ministry of Agriculture, the India Meteorological Department has been asked to monitor the meteorological conditions. According to IMD scientists, the winding path is generally favorable and mainly in the north-eastern direction. They mention, due to the drought, the swings were moved after the desert winters.
