Types of Pradosh Vrat

According to the Hindu calendar, the Pradosha fast that falls on Monday is called Soma Pradosha or Pradosham. The Pradosha fast which is celebrated on Tuesday is called Bhava Pradosham. The Pradosha fast which falls on Saturday is called Shani Pradosh. Of all the Pradosha fast, Soma Pradosh and Shani Pradosh are considered highly auspicious.

Pradosh Vrat Auspicious Date

Pradosh Vrat Katha (Katha) is performed in the evening on the Trayodashi period of both the forts, Shukla Paksha (shortening the moon period) and Krishna Paksha (the period of the moon of Ghata). Trayodashi Tithi falls during Pradosh Kaal and starts after sunset.



 

After sunset, when the time of Trayodashi Tithi and Pradosh ends, then that time is considered highly auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva.

How to follow Pradosh Vrat Vidhan and Pradosh Vrat Katha

If you observe Pradosha fast with dedication and devotion, it benefits you physically, mentally and spiritually.

● Shiva mantras, prayers and hymns are recited throughout the day

● Shiva Linga is washed with water, milk and honey

● Indian vine (bilva leaves), flowers and fruits are offered to the Lord for offering

● Goddess Parvati, Ganesh, Nandi, Karthik (Skanda) are also required to be worshiped

● A lamp or a lamp is lit to worship God

● Kalash filled with water is kept on a clean cloth

● Coconut and mango leaves are drawn inside the urn

● The urn must be covered with Darbha grass (Desmochya Bipinata)

● A lotus is placed on top of the vessel

● Holy ash is given to all people

● Devotees are required to apply holy ashes on their foreheads.

● To conclude the fasting ceremony, a piece of cloth and a picture of Lord Shiva are given to a Brahmin (Brahmin or the knower of God) or a priest.
