But these are rarely available.

The conch is the outer shell of a species found in the ocean. There are two types of conchs: left and right. The inner part of the conch is split to the left. It is used as a musical instrument. Valampiri conch/Dakshinavarti Conch/ Sri Lakshmi Conch is rare. Only white ones are used in temples. The sound of Mangala on the Deva instrument is raised by the conch. In the temple, the deity is awakened by the conch and the conch is called during the offering, evening and candle worship.
The Valampiri conch should be kept in the worship room. It is seen daily and worshiped on special days. Care should be taken to keep the conch used for poojas higher than the conch used for blowing. The conch should not be left on the ground except during pooja.
