Raksha Bandhan 2020

Every sister waits for the day of Raksha Bandhan to tie a rakhi on her brother’s wrist. This festival is celebrated on the full moon day of Shravan month. There are stories behind celebrating this festival. If we look at its beginnings, it is not a festival of brotherhood, but a Raksha Bandhan of victory. According to the Bhavishya Purana, the story which is found is as follows.

After a long time, there was a war between the gods and the Asuras. War continued for 12 years and finally the Asuras conquered the gods and conquered the three worlds including the throne of Devraj Indra. Indra then approached the planet Jupiter, the guru of the gods and sought advice. Brihaspati asked him to do defense legislation with chanting.

Guru Brihaspati started the Raksha Vidhan Sanskar on the full moon day of Shravan month. During this Raksha Vidhan, Raksha Patali was strengthened by chanting. After the puja, this bundle was tied by Devraj Indra’s wife Shachi, also known as Indrani, on the right hand of Devraj Indra of this defense bundle. It was through this power that Devraj succeeded in defeating Indra asuras and regaining his lost kingdom.

Presently this festival is synonymous with love of sister and brother, it can be said that this is a festival to deepen the sacred relationship of brother and sister. On the one hand, while the sister gives a promise to fulfill her obligation towards the brother and sister, on the other hand, the sister also fasts for the brother’s long life. The Rakhi sister who binds on the wrist of the brother on this day is not just a thread or thread of silk, but also the power of sister-brother’s unbreakable and sacred love and the power of protection is contained in that ordinary thread.

The historical story behind Raksha Bandhan

The custom is believed to have started after an incident described in the Mahabharata. Once Shri Krishna made a bruise on his wrist with a sharp weapon. At that time, Draupadi tore the loose end of her sari and tied it around Sri Krishna’s wrist without even giving it a second thought. Sri Krishna accepted this as a ‘Raksha Sutra’ and while Draupadi was in the process of taking off her clothes at Duryodhana’s court, Shri Krishna protected her from excessive humiliation by supplying an endless sari.

During the Mughal period, Rani Karnavati, the mother of Maharana Vikramaditya of Mewar, sent a rakhi to Emperor Humayun to get his help and protection from the impending attack on Mewar by the rulers of Malwa and Gujarat. Humayun responded promptly and defeated the rulers of Malwa and Gujarat for the protection and protection of Mewar.

There is another example of the importance of Rakhi in the reign of Jahangir. In Rajasthan, there was constant hostility between the two princely states. Taking advantage of this inequality between them, the Mughal army launched a military campaign against one of them and the other king also mobilized his army and was preparing to help the Mughals. At this, the first king sent a rakhi to the second king who was going to help the Mughals. It was then that this king attacked the Mughal army and the two combined armies defeated the Mughals and remained united forever. Know your future
