Sheetlashtami Katha

It is believed that Sheetla is a form of Goddess Durga. While Indian worship system makes man spiritually strong, it also aims to remove physical and mental diseases. It is said that many types of biliary disorders also start in the body during summer. It is believed that observing the fast of Sheetla Ashtami does not cause outbreak of the younger mother.
The fast of Shitala Saptami and Sheetlashtami is a fast to protect humans from smallpox diseases since ancient times. The name of smallpox in the language of Ayurveda is Sheetla. Therefore, this worship conveys the message of physical purity, mental purity and precautions.

On this fast, the mother is worshiped by setting an urn on Ashtami and praying that all kinds of defects caused by smallpox, galgontu, elder mother, younger mother, acute irritation, foul smell, diseases of the eyes, and cold are caused by Sheetla Mata Worship, get away from worship. On this day, the recitation of Shitala source is beneficial for the victims of cold disease. There is also a clear mention in the source that Shitala is Digambar, mounted on the garb, embellished with shoop, margany and neem leaves. On this occasion, Sheetla Maa is recited and a prayer is made for staying healthy.

‘वन्देऽहं शीतलां देवीं रासभस्थां दिगम्बरराम्‌, मार्जनीकलशोपेतां शूर्पालंकृतमस्तकाम्‌।’

Once, Sheetla (smallpox), the only son of a king, was born. In his kingdom, a Kutchi-son was also born as Sheetla. The Kachchi family was very poor, but a worshiper of Bhagwati. He continued to follow all the rules required from the religious point of view even during his illness. Special care was taken to clean the house.

Bhagwati was worshiped by the rule. Eating salt was banned. The vegetable was neither bitter nor fried. He neither ate the hot item nor gave it to a boy with a cold. By doing this, his son got well soon.

On the other hand, when Raja’s boy was suffering from the wrath of Sheetla, he started reciting Shatchandi in Bhagwati’s pavilion. Havans and sacrifices were offered daily. Rajpurohit too was always engrossed in worshiping Bhagwati. In the palace, a frying pan rises every day, a variety of hot delicious meals are made. Many types of meat were also cooked along with the vegetable. As a result, the smell of that delicious food aroused the prince’s mind. He insisted on eating. One is a Rajput and the other is only that, due to which his unfair stubbornness will also be fulfilled.

On this, instead of decreasing the anger of Sheetla, it started increasing. With Sheetla, he started having large boils, which had more itching and burning. Whatever measures the king took for the peace of Sheetla, the outbreak of Sheetla must have increased. Because all the work was being done in the king’s house. This made the king more upset. He could not understand that despite all this, the wrath of Sheetla is not calming down.

One day the king’s detectives told him that the Kutchi-son also had a cold, but he was completely cured. The king was shocked to know that I have been serving Shitala so much, there is no lack in worship and rituals, but my son is getting more patient while his son was cured without serving. He fell asleep in this thinking.

Bhagwati, wearing white cloth, appeared in her dream and said – ‘O king! I am happy with your service. This is why your son is still alive today. The reason for this not being correct is that you violated Sheetla’s rules. You should stop using salt in such situation. Salt causes itching in the patient’s abscess. Homemade vegetables should not be sprayed because its smell forces the patient to eat those things. The patient is forbidden to come to anyone because of fear of illness to others. Therefore, by following these rules, your son will definitely recover. After explaining the method, the goddess became impatient.

In the morning, the king made all the arrangements according to the knowledge of the goddess. This had a favorable impact on the prince’s health and he soon recovered.

On this day, Lord Krishna and Mata Devaki should be duly worshiped and should enjoy satvik substances in the middle time. By doing this you not only get the qualification, but all the sorrows also go away.
