Shiva Purana Pooja

Shiva Purana is considered to be the most important of all the Puranas. It also describes the methods of worship of Lord Shiva, including the praise of his welfare. Apart from Shiva-Mahima, methods of worship, enlightening stories have also been composed.

There are 24 thousand verses found in Shivpuran, which is divided into seven codes. It is believed that whoever worships Lord Shiva according to this Shiva Purana or recites this Shiva Purana, gets it done, and listens to the Shiva Purana with full devotion, Lord Shiva takes his welfare. Getting it recited on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri is considered very beneficial and fruitful.


 

Shivpuran Puja Vidhi

On the day of worship, in the morning, bathing should be purified by daily deeds and then become holy, then offer holy water to Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati and Nandi at the place of worship. Fill holy water in an earthen vessel on the Shivling and climb it with bilvapatra, mud and metal flowers, sandalwood, rice etc. from above.

If there is no pagoda nearby, it can also be worshiped by making Shivling out of pure wet soil. On Mahashivaratri, one should wake up at night with a fast and listen to the text of Shiv Puran. tn the next morning, fasting should be done by doing havan of barley, sesame, kheer and bilvapatra.

Keep these things in mind during Shiv Puran Puja

Whoever narrates the Shiv Purana story should get his hair, nails etc. cut off to keep the fast a day before starting the story. Because until the end of the story, no kind of abuse is done. Those who listen to the story should also keep in mind that even after eating a late digestion ie lentils, fried food, lentils, stale grains etc., Shiv Puran should not be heard. Story listeners should first take initiation from the story reader.

One should follow celibacy after taking initiation, sleeping on the ground, eating in a plate and eating only after the story ends. Whoever observes the fast of Shivpuran Katha should take a meal of barley, sesame or rice only once a day, those who have fasted only to listen to the story, should not consume onion, garlic, asafoetida, carrot, alcoholic things.

The end of the story should be celebrated as a festival, worshiping Lord Shiva and Shiv Puran, worshiping the narrator and satisfying them by giving donations. The Brahmins who come to listen to the story should also be honored and donated to them.
