The festival of worship of Lord Ganesha lasts for ten days, but the day before Ganesh Chaturthi i.e. Shukla Tritiya is celebrated as Gauri Habba, the festival of worship of Mata Parvati, this day is also celebrated as Hartalika Teej. In this article, let us know about the Gauri Habba festival in Bhadrapada month.

About Gowri Habba (Gauri Tyohar Ke Baare Mein)

Gowri Habba is dedicated to Goddess Gowri, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. It is a significant Hindu festival celebrated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and occurs one day before Ganesh Chaturthi.

Goddess Gowri, who is of very fair complexion, is worshipped on the day of Gowri Habba and women devotees observe Swarna Gowri Vratha to seek blessings of the Goddess Gowri, seeking happy marital life.

There is a belief that on this day, Goddess Gowri comes home the same way a married woman comes to her parents’ house. The very next day Lord Ganesha, her son, comes as if to take her back to the abode of Mount Kailasha. This festival is popularly known as Hartalika Teej in Maharashtra and the other North Indian states.

Gauri Habba means Gauri festival (Gauri Tyohar)

Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya is celebrated as Hartalika Teej in some areas and in some areas it is celebrated as Gauri Habba festival. The belief behind this is that on this day, Mother Parvati gives boon to Suhagin women on this day, while unmarried girls give the boon to get the desired groom.

On Chaturthi date, Goddess Parvati had killed Lord Ganesha by carving her body on her body (in some mythology from the dirt of the body and in some with the soil). That is why Gauri Habba, the festival of worship of Goddess Parvati is celebrated on the first day before Ganesh Chaturthi.

When Lord Shiva returned after a tour, Ganesha stopped him from entering. Lord Shiva became angry with this adventurousness of a childShe beheaded him but when she came to know the whole story and Mata Parvati started mourning, she put a newborn gajmukh and revived her life in it.
